When the cold winds blows and the woodfire roars – thoughts turn to a warming winter breakfast….a bowl of wholesome porridge. Byron Bay based Brookfarm, best known for their macadamia muesli launched their winter collection, a range of delicious porridges. Two of the Northern Region’s finest chefs Steve Snow from Fins and Scottish born chef Gavin Hughes from The Byron at Byron Resort were on hand to stir the Brookfarm porridge at the national launch.
Winter is also a difficult time for the homeless. Brookfarm have been long term supporters of the Lismore Soup Kitchen, and Martin Brook co-founder of Brookfarm announced an ongoing support of the kitchen. He commented, ‘We must never forget how fortunate we are, so we are delighted Brookfarm can assist the great work of this important local charity. The kitchen serves up to 450 meals a week and the Brookfarm Porrij will be now also be served at breakfast.’
Pam Brook the creator of the Porrij commented ‘I have always felt that porridge had to be just more than oats, if you want to lead an active healthy lifestyle then this ticks the box. The complex cereal combines, organic super-grains, rich in proteins such as amaranth, quinoa and golden flaxseed plus South Australian Almonds and Brookfarms own macadamias. ‘Like our muesli we have taken the humble porridge to a new level’, said Pam.
It is estimated that one in a hundred Australians suffer from a gluten intolerance or the more serious coeliac disease so Brookfarm have added a 100% gluten free porridge, full of flavour and natural goodness.
The porridge (Porrij) is currently sold throughout Australia and will soon be sold into Brookfarm overseas markets in the US, Europe and SE Asia. Martin commented ‘Its great we can show the world that the Northern Rivers can produce the best’.
Brookfarm’s new Porrij range will be showcased at the Sydney Good Food & Wine Show this weekend as part of the Northern Rivers Food Group Stand.
