The talented crew down at Geelong’s eco-friendly bakery – La Madre – have just launched a new wholewheat sourdough range, fondly called the “Three Sisters”, plus a new loaf to complement their existing sourdough ensemble. That’s a total of four new superb handmade loaves to sink your teeth into!
Crafted by hand at La Madre HQ, each “sister” has been made from the same mother culture yet each has a unique and delicious mix of ingredients. Sourced from one of Australia’s best flourmills, Wholegrain Milling, the flour is 100% stoneground* and certified organic wholewheat bakers flour declared by National Association for Sustainable Agriculture, Australia, the nation’s leading organic certifier. Each loaf has an earthy flavour and is rich in fibre and contains lots of vitamins and minerals.
Like all the goodies made by La Madre, the Three Sisters range and the new loaf comply with the sustainability ethos bakery owners Anna Spurling and Tez Kemp have instilled in their business. The philosophy is simple – nothing but the bakers hands have been used to craft each loaf, the best ingredients available have been used, and no preservatives or additives can be found. All in all making them simply better for the environment and our tums!
So without further a do, and a little drum roll, La Madre would like to introduce the Three Sisters:
§ 7 Grain Wholewheat Loaf (780g, $6.95): Who said a split personality was a bad thing? This loaf’s got seven! Made with seven different whole grains and rolled in sesame seeds, this beauty is perfect for breakfast and lunch.
§ Wholewheat Tin (600g, $6.00): There is no doubt this loaf will become the toasters best friend. A tin shaped wholewheat sourdough made using the finest organic wholewheat flour. Ideal with light fruit jams like marmalade.
§ Wholewheat Cob (800g, $6.95): Big and beautiful is this large loaf. Perfect for feeding a hungry crowd.
In addition to this range the bakery have introduced Potato & Rosemary Loaf (600g, $6.95), also affectionately known as “Rosie” at the La Madre HQ. Beckoning a warm bowl of soup or the pan juices of a hearty roast, Rosie is made from the bakery’s signature sourdough and filled with roasted Desiree potatoes, fresh rosemary and Nigella seeds.
“We’ve chosen to use wholewheat stoneground flour to provide La Madre lovers with an alternative style of loaf whilst maintaining our philosophy of handmade, locally sourced, and healthy.
And we’re definitely as excited, as our customers are to see the Potato & Rosemary Loaf on the menu. It gets gobbled up pretty quick at our place! says Tez Kemp, co owner and baker, La Madre Bakery.
