Hyatt Regency Sanctuary Cove's signature restaurant The Fireplace is headed straight to the top after last night winning the 2011 award for Gold Coast's Best Restaurant in a Motel, Hotel or Resort, presented by Restaurant and Catering Queensland Awards for Excellence. Now in its 13th year, the award night was held at Jupiters Hotel and Casino, Broadbeach and is renowned as the most dependable and authoritative guide to Australia's best restaurants and caterers. The Fireplace took home first place in the face of tough competition - honourable mentions Bistro On3 at The Sofitel, Broadbeach and Four Winds Revolving Restaurant at The Crowne Plaza, Surfers Paradise. The Fireplace measured up with flying colours against all judging criteria of the Restaurant and Catering Evaluation System, which is based on what is most important to diners in a restaurant experience. Head Sous Chef Obie Faulkner said he was thrilled to have won, as the Awards for Excellence set the national benchmark and is one of the most respected industry awards. "I feel really proud - the restaurant is a spectacular space and the team and myself have worked very hard to create the menu, so it's very rewarding," he said. The restaurant is now busy preparing for the State Titles to be held in Brisbane, with an ultimate aim of making it through to the national round.
